08.10.18 – The crucial role of the ship’s lookout is the focus of the latest edition of The Navigator from The Nautical Institute, which is now available for download.
In the issue, Captain Rajiv Singh MNI takes a close look at the inner workings of the human eye, while Captain Trevor Bailey FNI provides valuable insight into the art of keeping watch on the bridge.
Emma Ward, Editor of The Navigator, explains: “Keeping watch is not always as straightforward as one might imagine. All kinds of situations call for carefully honed appraisal skills, such as heavy traffic or limited visibility. We hope this issue of The Navigator will spark discussion and help focus our readers’ minds on how to be an effective lookout.”

The Nautical Institute launched its ‘Navigator Distributor’ scheme in 2015, encouraging a wider, global distribution of the free, 12-page magazine to as many professional marine navigators as possible.
