ABS had the pleasure of hosting the FuelEU Maritime and Onboard Carbon Capture Forum at the National Gallery in Athens on November 26, bringing together nearly 200 attendees, to explore the impact of the latest regulations and onboard carbon capture technologies on the evolving landscape of shipping’s energy transition.

The event, led by Elias Kariambas, ABS Vice President, Regional Business Development, Greece, featured a lineup of insightful presentations where ABS specialists Kostas Theocharis, ABS Engineer II, Regulatory Affairs, and Dimitrios Bardakos, ABS Manager, Global Sustainability, presented the evolving regulatory landscape as well as the challenges of adopting onboard carbon capture technologies.

Stamatis Fradelos, ABS Vice President, Regulatory Affairs, coordinated the question and answer session with Marco Paviotti, European Commission Policy Officer, and moderated a thought-provoking panel discussion where industry-leading figures Kourkountis Panos, SEA TRADERS S.A. Technical Director, Konstatinos Polydakis, MM Marine Inc. Chief Executive Officer, and Constantinos Capetanakis, International Bunker Industry Chairman, shared their perspectives on the implementation challenges of the FuelEU Maritime regulation and the opportunities that lie ahead.

Maria Kyratsoudi, ABS Director, Business Development, moderated the second panel discussion ‘Onboard Carbon Capture: A Decarbonization Solution?’ featuring Konstantinos Karathanos, GasLog Ltd. Chief Operation Officer, Stavros Niotis, Prime Marine Chief Sustainability Officer, Stian Aakre, Wärtsilä Exhaust Treatment General Manager, Technical & R&D, and Zongfei Liu, Equinor Principal Engineer of Platform Technology.
