By decision of the Minister of Shipping and Insular Policy, V. Kikilias and following the order of the Commandant of the Hellenic Coast Guard, Vice Admiral (HCG) Tryfon. Kontizas, police checks on professional tourist day boats (boats that operate daily leisure itineraries) are being intensified, in the context of increased passenger traffic in view of the completion of the summer season.

In particular, in a relevant circular that has been sent, all Port Authorities in the country are called upon to proceed with additional checks on professional tourist day boats, in all ports of the country. The checks concern their movement and circulation, as well as compliance with safety regulations. Particular emphasis is given to compliance with the conditions of operation of this specific category of ships, to the control of the status of those on board, to their staffing with the foreseen crew composition, as well as to the obligation to comply with the foreseen insurance policies, shipping documents and certificates.

At the same time, by a circular of the General Secretariat of Shipping and Ports of the Ministry of Shipping and Insular Policy, attention is drawn to the coastal shipping companies for the unhindered observance of all necessary safety measures and the rules for the provision of maritime transport, in order to achieve the smooth provision of coastal shipping service to the transported passenger public.

Mr. Kikilias underlined that “All preventive police actions aim to protect human life. Coastal shipping and shipping professionals are our partners in the joint effort for quality services and uninterrupted service to the passenger public. Safety is the starting point and foundation of this effort. For this reason, we are constantly increasing checks on all coastal shipping vessels. The goal is to constantly increase the level of security for citizens. Thus, the feeling of security is instilled in our fellow citizens and the image of an organized state, governed by rules of security and order, is reflected.”
