Record attendance at maritime charity’s Singapore Drinks Reception in a week that also saw the launch of two new projects and over US$500, 000 raised towards seafarers’ welfare.
It was a busy Singapore Maritime Week 2015 for Sailors’ Society. The week got off to a great start with Sailors’ Society’s third Asian Challenge, sponsored by Rio Tinto and Cargill. 45 industry teams scaled Borneo’s Mt Kinabalu to raise US$570, 000 for the charity’s Gift of Education and Gift of Welfare funds.
The following Wednesday 22nd April saw the Society host its annual drinks reception at the elegant Singapore Cricket Club sponsored by Bibby Ship Management and ABS. Support also came from FCM Travel as bronze sponsors and World Fuel Services, Aon, GAC and Bernhard Schulte Ship Management. More than 400 industry guests attended and a prize draw raised US$2, 500 to support the charity’s work with seafarers in Asia and around the world.
The charity also announced two initiatives; the launch in Asia of its Wellness at Sea coaching programme with support from RightShip and sponsorship of four scholarships on two courses run at the Singapore Polytechnic under the MaritimeONE programme.
Jan Webber, Sailors’ Society’s Director of Fundraising, thanked sponsors and guests for their support and highlighted some of the seafarers’ welfare projects that are benefitting from funds raised.

We’re delighted to have seen so much interest in our Wellness at Sea coaching programme and Singapore MaritimeONE Scholarships which we hope will go on to benefit many of the world’s seafarers.”
Many professionals on the night committed to support the charity through taking part in November’s Sailors’ Society Singapore Gala Dinner or participating in a new challenge event climbing Mount Toubkal in Morocco.
