“ ‘Tis strange- but true; for truth is always strange; Stranger than fiction !” Lord Byron was absolutely right…
So here we go with yet another Market total fall; The BDI lost 55 points and things are getting sour but cool; cheer up the worse is yet to come. The geopolitics still perplexed. John Faraclas’ daily brief:
The Capes collapsed due to a multiple of reasons, but they collapsed. The BCI lost 123 points easy to count your losses, yes it’s 1,2 3… At 1,508 points everything is possible… brace! The 1,600 point threshold h a s been broken…
The Panamaxes BPI was down 43 points and now stands at 644 points…
The Supras’ BSI was also down to 526 – minus 26 points…
The Handies’ BHSI down 16 points and now at 368 things are getting sour…
The Wets also in red; the last published BDTI (Dirties) and BCTI (Cleans) stood at 874 and 619 – minus three respectively!
Unless we see the BDI above the 2,000 points and the Wets above the 1,000 mark, shipping will be very difficult despite the huge demands in cargoes. Right now we are 1,458 points below the level as of the end of December 2014 when the BDI stood at 2,247 points. With too many regulations and the 2020 plus other issues, Shipping becomes Shipping for the very, very, very few!
The WTI was up at US$53.31 – caution…
So we live in a total uncertainty were the ships running costs are higher than the earnings with raised eyebrows everywhere…
The Geopolitics still enigmatically perplexed:
Migrants, The East Med, The Balkans, Brexit – what patience does Mrs. May possess! The USA and China Trade War, the new Venezuela mess and all that jazz all over Planet Ocean and nobody cares to correct the economy, now a burden for all, as all nations are in debt: US$ 250 Trillions; only a War can wipe-out this debt. Indeed we are cynical as nobody cares with peaceful means to make an economic environment viable for all 7,7 billion we live… Shame…
On another note we attended the lecture “Paper Dress: Future of History?” at the Friends room in London’s Hellenic Centre. An excellent slides speech by Prof Jose Teunissen, Dean at the School of Design and Technology London College of Fashion. A unique presentation were she discussed how the ‘disposable’ character of a Paper Dress can express completely different values within the Fashion history and show the specific qualities and values it can symbolise.
This event was part of the #TextMe_PaperFashion exhibition which we re-visited together with the speaker. Many present were fashion historians, fashion designers, journalists and students as well as collectors from all over Planet Ocean. The main exhibition will run until the 24th of February; an event not to be missed as well as the book on the exhibition – same must be on every coffee table and library – home or business! Congrats to ATOPOS cvc and the Hellenic Centre for this unique theme and above all its presentation.
Have a nice evening and remain on guard from actions emanating from Pirates, Terrorists, Criminals and Business Hooligans whatsoever wherever you are on Planet Ocean!
