Saint Nicholas of Myra, the patron Saint of the Seven Seas, Shipping and Seafarers was born at Patara of Minor Asia and was an early Christian Greek bishop from the maritime city of Myra in Asia Minor during the time of the Roman Empire. Because of the advancing Seljuk Turks his remains were transferred in Italy – Bari and Venice and still exist today!

Many celebrations take place all over Christendom particularly in the Greek Orthodox World. One of them took place at Saint Nicholas Church on Nisi (Αγιος Νικολαος Νησι) Vrontados, Chios and a special liturgy took place; Metropolitan of Chios, Psara and Innousses Markos officiated. Local Authorities and the Military – Land Forces, Navy, Airforce, as well as the Hellenic Coast Guard attended too.
The Chios Marine Club president Capt Antonis Ch. Pitsilos and local members were present and send us pictures too.
