RMT responds to Rosebank oil field go-ahead

OFFSHORE union RMT today called for a domestic publicly owned energy sector in response to UK Government’s decision to grant Equinor and Ithaca Energy a licence to exploit the Rosebank field, 80 miles northwest of Shetland.

RMT General Secretary Mick Lynch said: “The North Sea Transition Authority awarding a new oil and gas licence to a consortium in which the Norwegian Government effectively has an 80% stake shows exactly why the UK needs its own publicly owned energy company to protect workers and bill payers, and jobs, skills, livelihoods and public investment as part of a progressive energy strategy.”
