Bill Chilton, IMCA’s new Diving Manager

Bill Chilton has been announced as the new Diving Manager at the International Marine Contractors Association (IMCA).

Chilton joined IMCA in November 2021 and has 25 years of experience in the commercial diving industry, including 12 years at the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) in the UK regulating the safety of divers working in the offshore energy and other sectors of the diving industry. During his time at the HSE, Bill also worked as a decommissioning specialist.

Prior to this Chilton worked as an air and saturation diver on a wide range of diving projects and held a variety of topside positions, including project engineer and project manager at several offshore and inshore diving contractors based in the UK.

Bill Chilton, incoming IMCA Diving Manager, said: “I’m looking forward to taking up the role in the new year. My career in commercial diving, working as a specialist diving inspector at the UK’s offshore safety regulator, and the last two years at IMCA, have given me the firm foundations to support our Members and represent our industry.

“I have large boots to fill following Bryan McGlinchy, but I know the team well and together we will continue to deliver to the high standards IMCA has set in this area in recent times.”

Commenting on his appointment, IMCA CEO Iain Grainger said: “I’m delighted that Bill will be leading our Diving team and shaping the future of our Diving Division. IMCA has a strong history in this space and I’m looking forward to working with Bill to support our Members to improve performance and safety.”

In November, IMCA announced that long-standing Diving Manager Bryan McGlinchy will be retiring at the end of 2023.
