Chian Stamatis Krimizis elected President of the Athens Academy

What a gathering that was earlier on tonight at the Mansion of Athens’ Academy for the ceremony of installing the Academy’s new president and vice president.

The outgoing president Michael Stathopoulos delivered a concise summary of the centers and research departments work of the Athens Academy during 2023.

The new president’s speech was a unique one; “The Era of Space: Exploration, Environment, Economy and Survival of spacecraft Earth”.

Michael Tiverios was elected Vice-president of the Athens Academy.

The ceremony took place in the Ceremonies Hall of the Athens Academy Mansion at Panepistimiou Street in the presence of Metropolitan Markos of Chios, Psara and Inousses Islands, Greece’s Former President of the Republic Prokopis Pavlopoulos, Chian MPs Noti Mitarachi (ND) and Radm (HCG) Stavros Michailides (Pasok-Movement for Change), shipowners Simos P. Palios, Capt Panagiotis N. Tsakos, George Prokopiou with his wife Alexndra, the president of the Chios Marine Club Capt. Antonis Ch. Pitsilos with his wife Emily – BoD member of Vrontadoussians in Attika, Yiannis Stiros also BoD from UVA, the vice president of Chios Marine Club Mike Kasmas of Bureau Veritas and many others.

The Athens Academy

Stamatis (Tom) Krimizis emanates from Vrontados, Chios Island in the Aegean, a scientist in space exploration contributing to many US unmanned space programs of our Solar System and beyond and has held the Chair of Science and Space at Athens’ Academy. Among the many honours was the one in 1999 from the International Astronomical Union who named asteroid 1979 UH as 8323 Krimizis. Watch this space!
