On the occasion of the “Marine Environment and Sciences Awareness Campaign”, currently implemented by HELMEPA and The Lloyd’s Register Educational Trust – The LRET in Thessaloniki, the Merchant Marine Academy (Α.Ε.Ν.)of Macedonia in Nea Mihaniona took the initiative and organized on Thursday 24 May 2012 the voluntary clean up of a nearby beach.
Participants in this activity included 60 students and professors of the Academy, who cleaned up approximately 300 meters of coastline from all types of garbage. Besides usual litter items, such as plastic bottles and bags, volunteers collected 300 crates, 5 buoys, 15 lobster traps, 30 wooden pallets, 8 car tires και5 barrels!
HELMEPA congratulates the Administration, the professors and students of the Academy for their spirit of volunteerism and wishes them every success in accomplishing their educational objectives.
